Silent Auction Fundraiser November 29

The Margaret Williams Trust Fund Silent Auction will be held on Saturday, November 29, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The auction will take place at the A.C. Hunter Public Library, Arts and Culture Centre, 125 Allandale Road, St. John’s. Photos and descriptions of auction items are available on our website and facebook.

For 30 years the Margaret Williams Trust Fund has helped recipients pursuing graduate studies in librarianship, archival studies or teacher librarianship, or to pursue professional and research opportunities. Many NLLA members have been grateful recipients.

The fundraiser will include tea, coffee, snacks and trivia! We will also have items available for purchase like felt gift card holders in more than 30 designs and crocheted wine/liquor gift bags, both from Jewel Cousens.

Margaret Williams Trust Award Silent Auction: Seeking Donated Items

The Margaret Williams Trust Award is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary! Since 1984, the fund has helped recipients pursuing graduate studies in librarianship, archival studies or teacher librarianship or pursue professional and research opportunities. Many NLLA members have been grateful recipients.

Although it has historically generated enough income to award an annual prize of $1000-2000, this year the fund will dip very close to it’s principal amount. The NLLA Happenings Committee, in conjunction with the Margaret Williams Trust Fund Board of Trustees is holding a silent auction. They hope that this auction will help to ensure that the trust will continue to support and encourage professional growth in the library community in our province.

Donated items are currently being sought for the silent auction. Ideas for items to donate could include: services, gift certificates, artwork, gift baskets, or handmade items, and you are also invited to be creative. The organizers are open to any ideas for donations that you may have. Please contact Amanda Power by the end of September if you would like to make a contribution, indicating what you are planning to donate (a photo of the item would be helpful) as well as the minimum value you would like assigned to the item(s).

The date of the silent auction is to be determined, with mid-November being tentatively considered, and more details about the event will follow.

2012 Margaret Williams Trust Fund Award Winner

The Margaret Williams Trust Fund Award was established to promote the development of librarianship in Newfoundland and Labrador. Funds are awarded on a competitive basis to applicants seeking funding for library-related projects or assistance in pursuing graduate studies in librarianship, archival studies, or teacher librarianship.

Lorraine Busby, Chair of the MWTF Board of Trustees, is pleased to announce that the Trust has issued its 2012 award to Heather Buffett in the amount of $1,500.

Originally from St. John’s, NL, Heather holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of New Brunswick, as well as Bachelor of Arts (Major – History, Minor – Political Science) from Memorial University. She will be pursuing a postgraduate degree in Library and Information Studies at the University of Western Ontario and hopes to return to Newfoundland upon its completion to work as a legal librarian.

2011 Margaret Williams Trust Fund Award Winner

The Margaret Williams Trust Fund Award was established to promote the development of librarianship in Newfoundland and Labrador. Funds are awarded on a competitive basis to applicants seeking funding for library-related projects or assistance in pursuing graduate studies in librarianship, archival studies, or teacher librarianship.

The Trustees of the Margaret Williams Trust Fund are pleased to announce that the Trust has issued its 2011 award to Nailisa Tanner in the amount of $1,500.

Originally from St. John’s, Nailisa holds a bachelor of arts (honours) degree in Western Society & Culture from Concordia University (2010), Montreal QC. She will be pursuing a postgraduate degree in Library and Information Studies at McGill University, specializing in Librarianship with a strong interest in Archival Studies.
